Clipper Race: Same as yesterday:
(March 27, 2018; Day 4) – Today for the Clipper 2017-18 Round the World Yacht Race has been a case of ‘Groundhog Day’ as the light winds that had been a feature of the previous 24 hours continue to frustrate the teams. Despite not making much progress towards the southern tip of Japan, before facing the North Pacific, the racing continues to be close with less than 45 nautical miles separating the eleven boats. America’s Cup: A name is born:
New York, NY (March 27, 2018) – The New York Yacht Club and Bella Mente Quantum Racing Association today announced they will compete under the name New York Yacht Club American Magic in their challenge for the 36th America’s Cup, to be held in New Zealand in 2021.
Philip Lotz, Commodore of the New York Yacht Club, said, “America was the first boat to win the America’s Cup in 1851. Magic was the first boat to defend the Cup in 1870. American Magic builds on the legacy of those two yachts, and the name embodies the mission of our campaign, which is to win the Cup and in the process build the foundation for a stronger competitive sailing culture in the United States.
