Racing the Storm
Racing the Storm by Dave Hilditch Photography
It was a drizzly day in the Lake District. Locals and regular visitors to the Lakes will know that sort of drizzle that doesn’t look much but thoroughly soaks you in seconds. So we decide not to go for a walk but, instead, to have a steamer ride on Lake Windermere. From Ambleside down to Bowness for lunch and then back to Ambleside. As we approached Ambleside we could see the weather closing in and the Langdale Pikes disappearing in the gloom. The rain became heavier. Just then a lone dinghy raced past us on it’s way to the moorings at Waterhead trying to beat the worst of the storm. There was just enough light to pick out the dinghy against the fast disappearing background. Seconds later, the boat had disappeared and all that was left was grey and wet.
