Five Events Complete Bacardi Competition:
Miami, FL (March 12, 2016) – That’s a wrap for the 2016 Bacardi Cup (Mar 7-12) and BACARDI Miami Sailing Week (Mar 10-12), with five events enjoying Bacardi hospitality and mostly strong winds.
Star – Germans Robert Stanjek and Frithjof Kleen (GER 8340) won the 89th Bacardi Cup Regatta, winning the final race of the series today to become the first German Star team to ever win the Bacardi Cup Regatta.

Islands Race Offers Stormy Ride:
San Diego, CA (March 12, 2016) – The start of the 2016 Islands Race yesterday for 23 boats featured sunny skies and a disappointing southerly wind at just 4 knots. However, the front that the Organizing Authority and Race Committee were anticipating, which led to the decision to opt for the coastal course (80 nm) rather than the longer offshore option(129.5 nm), ripped through the fleet not long after the start.
Lighter winds followed the initial squall, then built steadily as the backside of the front filled in. Smaller sea states with 6-8’ swells and significant wind chop marked the hours following the start. Winds varied between 20 and 30 knots with gusts.
