For me, I had not worked out very much prior to deciding to do a Half Ironman. So, keep in mind that the training that you are going to see me posting is relative only to me. Hopefully, however, it will provide an example of what is in store. One thing to keep in mind is that you need at a minimum 4 or 5 solid months of lead time if you are a first timer with no experience like me. Another thing to keep in mind is that this takes a lot of dedicationmentally, physically, and from a time perspective. A lot of days require a morning workout and an evening workout. I am single and have no kids. I really learned to respect those that have families, a full time job, and found time to workout for this distance. I cant even fathom how some people can manage training for a Full Ironman
I will post my weeks of training in the next postings. As a general rule for HR Zones, these should be specific to your fitness level and your own max output. I did find, however, that my max zone was not too far off the general rule of (220bpm my age) = max HR. Another thing to keep in mind is that your weekend days should be reserved for long workouts (for the most part). I typically used Monday as my rest day each week.
