The skin care industry is a billion dollar market with new products hitting the shelves regularly. But just how many of these apparently revolutionary skin care products are any good? In order to be able to make a rational decision about these products we need to know a little about why we need them in the first place.
As we get older our skin begins to sag a little and the dreaded lines and wrinkles start to appear. This happens because the collagen and elastin in our skin starts to break down. If you are not aware of these two then let me give you a quick bit of technical info!
Collagen – this protein has a fibrous nature which has a tensile strength that provides our skin with firmness. Is the breakdown of collagen in our skin that leads to sagging, lines and wrinkles.
Elastin – is another protein that helps our skin to stay flexible and firm. It is the presence of elastin that helps our skin retain its shape.Â
What you need to look for in skin care products is something that will not just fill in all these lines and wrinkles, but which will actually stimulate the production of these two proteins in our skin and in effect turn back the clock! What you need to look for then is a product which contains a high concentration of quality active ingredients which will have this desired effect. However, it is a little known fact that many companies do not include enough of these ingredients in their products and in effect are duping us into believing it will actually benefit us.
So when you are choosing a skin care product next time, these are the good ingredients you need to be looking out for:
Collagen – as mentioned earlier is important to help our skin retain firmness. However, most of us are not aware that the collagen molecule is actually too large to be effectively absorbed into the skin by the means of a cream. So to get the benefit of collagen production you need to purchase products that include ingredients that will stimulate collagen production by the body’s own natural means.
Phytessence Wakame – this is a type of kelp found in the Japanese Sea and works by blocking an enzyme in your body called hyalunronidase. This harmful enzyme will break down the hyaluronic acid present in your skin which is a vital aid to collagen and elastin. The loss of this acid causes an ageing effect and the appearance of dark circles around the eyes.
Cynergy TK – this ingredient has been proven in clinical trials to stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin in the skin. The trials conducted over an 18 day period showed that the skin improved in moisture retention by 14%, whilst elasticity improved by 42% over the same period.
CoQ10 (Coenzyme Q10) – also known as CoQ10, this vitamin type substance can be found in all cells in our body and is vital to healthy skin. It is a powerful antioxidant with the ability to counteract free radicals which can seriously damage our cells. Although naturally present in our bodies, CoQ10 is not immune to effects of time and like collagen and elastin, will become depleted as we age. However, CoQ10 in itself is like collagen, and is not effective when applied to the skin as a cream. What you should look for is a form known as Nano – Liptobelle H-EQ10 which can penetrate the skin and provide all the benefits we need, in particular combating wrinkles. It can also promote the production of collagen and elastin.
So if you are looking for an effective anti-ageing cream then check the ingredients list for these three ingredients which when combined can offer significant improvements to the look and feel of our skin.
