Harpenden Expedition Club 2016 Open Evening
A Sailing event on 2016-06-14 20:00:00
This is an open evening for potential new members of Harpenden Expedition Club (HEC). Every two years HEC opens its books to new members and runs an open evening for interested students and their parents to come and find out more. Harpenden Expedition Club was founded in 1993 to provide Adventure through outdoor challenges by taking young people aged 12 to 19 from Harpenden away for 4-5 weekends a year to some wild country in North and South Wales, Lake District, Derbyshire and the River Wye. Our activities include Fell Walking and Mountain Climbing, Rock Climbing, Canoeing, mountain biking and occasionally Sailing. Each month on the 4th Tuesday we hold a HEC meeting (7.30 to 9.30) in the Harpenden Trust Hall in Southdown where we teach new skills, plan our trips but also have fun. The club was founded by a number of experienced and qualified outdoor enthusiasts who offer their time on a voluntary basis. The club is entirely not-for-profit and supported by the three Harpenden Secondary Schools, The Harpenden Trust and affiliated with the British Mountaineering Council. Members not only learn outdoor skills but life skills too and mention of membership on Universities application statements is usually a big help. If you’d like to find out more about the club, please join us for the open evening. The evening itself is restricted to the first 50 students to register.
