As Defender of the America’s Cup, Oracle Team USA had a strong vision for the event. So strong, in fact that their Challenger of Record, the mechanism in the Deed of Gift to insure mutually satisfactory event conditions, quit for both the 2013 and 2017 editions.

Karl Kruger, the sole member of team Heart of Gold, and the first person to complete the 750 mile Race to Alaska that started on June 8, 2017 on a Stand Up Paddle Board. He stroked 750 miles solo from Port Townsend up the Inside Passage, crossing the finish line in Ketchikan on June 25.
