On 23 June 2010, the world’s biggest large-scale multinational sea control exercise named Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) was officially commerced around Hawaii Islands. Under the leadership of the US Third Fleet, RIMPAC is a multinational, combined sea mobility exercise with the participation of 14 countries, 32 ships, 5 submarines, over 170 aircrafts and 20,000 military staff. This year, RIMPAC exercises include military units and soldiers from Australia, Canada, Chile, Columbia, France, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Peru, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand and the United States. RIMPAC is designed to enhance the tactical capabilities and cooperation of participating nations in various aspects of maritime operations at sea. The 22nd RIMPAC exercise is carried out under the theme of “Mobility, Cooperation and Joint Support”. The exercise is also the place for participating countries to show off their modernest warships.
