The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, conceived by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston in 1996, is enjoying its 10th edition as the 12-boat fleet races from Seattle to Panama. Launched under the premise of providing an opportunity for people, whether they are familiar with sailing or not, to see traveling the world’s oceans as an achievable goal, its purpose for three sailors has a much deeper meaning.

Eight Bells: Mark Rastello:
Mark Gerard Rastello passed away May 17 at 11:47 am at the age of 59 (1956-2016) in Newport Beach, CA. Mark had a storied past as a champion sailor, winning most of the sought after goals available in California and beyond.
Mark was the 1973 Naples Sabot Junior Champion, the 1974 Governor’s Cup Champion, a two-time All-American for UCLA in 1977 and 1978, winning the College Coed Nationals for UCLA in 1978. Mark went on to be a successful 470 skipper, match racer and offshore sailor. He was a fierce competitor and teammate on the water, and a friend to all off the water. He played the game right and was respected for it.
