All the teams racing in the Gov Cup checked in on Monday, got to renew friendships and make new contacts. Many of the racers had been here before and/or had competed against each other in a variety of events throughout the world. For the three Australian teams, one from New Zealand and the one from New Caledonia, the trips take a long time. The crew from Royal Southern Yacht Club also had a long trip, coming from England. Some of the competitors have been here before, but the team from Southern England has not raced in the west coast of the US prior to this event. However, they have raced successfully in many other venues, including the UK, Argentina, France, Italy and Ireland.
