Saildrones to sail for science:
A fleet of wind and solar-powered autonomous vehicles will soon be setting off on a mission to capture valuable ocean data. Known as Saildrones, the high-tech, unmanned vehicles will be at sea for up to twelve months and are an element of a commonwealth and industry funded research portfolio.
Their mission is to measure and monitor sea-surface temperature, salinity, ocean carbon, and biota – helping to paint a more detailed picture of the ocean off the Gippsland coast in Victoria, Australia.

Ken McAlpine selected for America’s Cup Hall of Fame:
The Herreshoff Marine Museum / America’s Cup Hall of Fame has selected Ken McAlpine (AUS) as the sole inductee for the Class of 2018 to the America’s Cup Hall of Fame.
The America’s Cup Hall of Fame was founded in 1992, as an arm of the Herreshoff Marine Museum by Halsey Herreshoff, a four-time America’s Cup defender and grandson of legendary yacht designer Nathanael G. Herreshoff. Over eighty legends of the Cup have been inducted into the Hall.
