CEATEC Japan 2010, Japan’s major information technology and electronics exhibition, kicked off on October 5 at Makuhair Messe, with many futuristic prototypes and cutting-edge products. The exhibition sponsored by the CEATEC Japan Organizing Committee will last for five days. CEATEC Japan 2010 is operated and managed by the Japan Electronics Show Association (JESA). This year, the exhibition with its theme “Digital Harmony – Technologies for comfortable and eco living” will convey to the world all the dynamism of tomorrow’s lifestyle, business, society, and environment. The number of exhibitors and booths is more than that of 2010. 616 companies/organizations took part in this year’s show.

At the CEATEC Japan venue, Samsung Electronics introduced their new Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab models. The Galaxy S smartphone has a five mega-pixel camera and a 4-inch organic EL display while 7-inch tablet-type Galaxy Tab features with a PC-like 1024 x 600-pixel display. After the initial announcement, an opening ceremony took place at the touch-and-try corner in the venue and exhibition visitors can view its lightweight and slim tablet-style smartphones.

The Fujitsu Laboratories social robot teddy bears seem to look like regular teddy bears except a high-tech sensor and ICT technology beneath their appearance. An array of sensors helps them replicate facial expressions like sadness and bad temper, gestures including raising arms in delight to match external stimuli.
Social robot teddy bears are enabled to interact with users. Users can control their behavior by a PC via a USB port.
