Titanic, The Musical
A Sailing event on 2016-07-28 00:00:00
With one of the most glorious scores ever written for the theatre, Titanic premiered on Broadway in 1997 with a cast of 37, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical. Revised for a cast of 20 in 2013, the show is quickly becoming a must-see in productions around the country.
The lights come up to reveal the dock in Southampton, where people are gathering to wonder in awe at the ship of dreams: a stoker, crewmen and stevedores, the owner, the architect and the captain, the Third class immigrants, Second Class passengers, and finally the First Class. One by one, as the ship sets sail, the dreams and aspirations of these real life characters are presented: Barrett, the stoker who wants to get away from the coal mines; Alice Beane who longs be part of the First Class society; Kate McGowan, Jim Farrell and the Third Class passengers who yearn for a better life in America. In a similar fashion to Les Miserables, Titanic is a story of survival and the triumph of the human spirit.
