Volvo Ocean Race: Raising the bar:
(May 25, 2018; Day 6) – Team AkzoNobel set a new record for the greatest distance sailed in 24 hours in the history of the Volvo Ocean Race today, eclipsing the previous mark and smashing past the 600-mile barrier as they rocketed through the North Atlantic.
Dutch skipper Simeon Tienpont’s crew on their Volvo Open 65 bested the existing record for a yacht competing in the Volvo Ocean Race, the 596.6 miles set by Torben Grael’s Volvo Open 70 Ericsson 4 in the 2008-09 edition.
Rebel Brits lead GC32 Worlds:
Riva del Garda, Italy (May 24, 2018) – Towering clouds over the towering mountains surrounding Lake Garda made conditions challenging for competitors and race management on the opening day of this inaugural GC32 World Championship. Able to complete two races, INEOS Rebels UK, helmed by seasoned multiple Extreme Sailing Series winner Leigh McMillan, top the leaderboard. Full report.
