William Geroux – The Mathews Men: Seven Brothers and the War Against Hitler’s U-Boats

In his first book, Geroux, a veteran Richmond Times-Dispatch reporter, focuses on Mathews County, Virginia, to tell one of the overlooked stories of the Second World War. Located on the Chesapeake, Mathews County supplied a large proportion of the captains and seamen who served in the U.S. Merchant Marines. This was especially true with the Hodges family, whose seven sons sailed throughout the North and South Atlantic, Caribbean, Indian Ocean, and the Barents Sea, always alert for German U-boats. Taking us around the world, Geroux’s history is also a riveting high seas adventure tale.
